How a converted college quarterback became an NFL touchdown scorer
In short: Skyy Moore never played wide receiver before arriving at Western Michigan University. Yet, this positional shift led to a record-tying performance and a spot in the NFL draft. From high school quarterback to Super Bowl champion, his journey highlights the rapid adaptability required in professional football.
Skyy Moore's professional trajectory is defined by a significant mid-career transformation. While playing high school football at Valley High School and later Shady Side Academy, Moore operated as both a quarterback and a defensive back under coach Dave Havern. However, upon committing to Western Michigan University, he underwent a complete positional conversion to wide receiver, a role he had never previously occupied.
The transition proved remarkably effective. As a true freshman in 2019, Moore appeared in 12 of 13 games, accumulating 53 receptions for 802 yards and three touchdowns. He continued his development through 2021, when he tied a school record by catching four touchdown passes in a single game against Northern Illinois. This collegiate success propelled him into the 2022 NFL draft, where the Kansas City Chiefs selected him in the second round as the 54th overall pick.
Moore's professional career has been marked by high-stakes contributions and injury challenges. During his rookie season, his punt return helped set up a game-winning field goal in the AFC Championship against the Cincinnati Bengals, contributing to a 23–20 victory. He later scored his first career touchdown in Super Bowl LVII during the Chiefs' 38–35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. On March 13, 2026, Moore joined the Green Bay Packers via a $2.5 million, one-year deal after his time with the San Francisco 49ers, during which he gained 1,198 combined return yards.
