The first act to top the Billboard 200 nine times in a row
In short: Stray Kids didn't just break into the global music scene; they restructured how K-pop groups achieve commercial dominance. By securing consecutive number-one debuts on the Billboard 200, they established a new benchmark for international success and high-volume pre-orders.
Stray Kids' trajectory is marked by a rapid transition from a survival show project in 2017 to a global powerhouse. After their debut in 2018 with the EP I Am Not, the group built momentum through the Clé series in 2019. A pivotal moment occurred with the fourth EP's lead single "Miroh," which secured their first South Korean music program win. By launching 'Top', they secured a top spot on the Oricon Singles Chart, marking them as the fourth overseas male act to achieve such a feat with a debut single.
In 2021, the studio album Noeasy caused a major shift in the group's commercial reach. It became their first million-selling album and the first by a JYP Entertainment artist to reach that milestone. This was followed by a period of intense international growth. In February 2022, they signed with Republic Records for U.S. promotions, leading to a historic run of nine consecutive releases—including Oddinary, Maxident, 5-Star, Rock-Star, Ate, Hop, Karma, Do It, and This & That—that all peaked at number one on the US Billboard 200.
The sheer volume of their success is reflected in their certifications and pre-orders. By June 2023, the album 5-Star became the first K-pop release to exceed 5.13 million pre-orders. Additionally, Maxident became the first album for both the group and their agency to sell over two million copies, eventually earning a triple million certification from the KMCA. As of November 2025, Stray Kids holds the record for the most RIAA Gold Albums for a K-Pop artist, with six certified titles.
