From Serbian youth prospect to AC Milan's defensive powerhouse
In short: Few players navigate the volatile landscape of European football with such rapid ascent. After rising through the ranks of Partizan, Strahinja Pavlo vić has transitioned from a teenage debutant to a centerpiece of Serie A, earning comparisons to legendary defenders.
Born in Šabac on 24 May 2001, Strahinja Pavlović’s professional journey began in the youth system of Partizan, which he joined in the summer of 2015. His breakthrough into the senior squad arrived under manager Zoran Mirković, leading to a competitive debut on 23 February 2019, in a 3–0 victory over Proleter Novi Sad. By the time he faced the Eternal derby on 2 March 2019, he was just 17 years and 282 days old.
The defender's career has been defined by a series of high-stakes moves across Europe's top leagues. Following a period of stability at Partizan, where he secured a five-year contract and a Serbian Cup title, a transfer to Monaco was announced in December 2019. His time in France saw him move through various loan spells, including stints at Cercle Brugge and Basel in Switzerland, the latter of which began with a 3–0 win against Lausanne-Sport in February 2022.
A significant turning point occurred on 1 July 2022, when Red Bull Salzburg acquired him for €7.00m. However, his most high-profile move arrived on 31 July 2024, when AC Milan signed him for an estimated €18 million fee. Wearing the number 31 jersey—once worn by Jaap Stam—Pavlović has already made his mark in Serie A, scoring against Lazio in August 2024 and providing a decisive goal against Roma in November 2025.
On the international stage, Pavlović has represented Serbia at the U17, U19, and U21 levels, making his senior debut against Russia in September 2020. He played a vital role in Serbia's 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign, scoring a header against Cameroon, and participated in the UEFA Euro 2024 group stages.
