In short: Once a brilliant classmate to Satoru Gojo, Suguru Geto’s journey is defined by a devastating shift from protector to predator. Driven by disillusionment after a traumatic mission, he abandoned his duties to pursue a radical vision of a world free from non-sorcerers, ultimately becoming a central figure in a cosmic struggle.

Suguru Geto’s transformation is rooted in a pivotal mission roughly 11 years before the events of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. While serving as a student at Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High, Geto and his classmate Satoru Gojo were tasked with escorting the Star Plasma Vessel, Riko Amanai. The mission turned violent when they were attacked by the mercenary Toji Fushiguro, resulting in Riko's death. This trauma shattered Geto's belief in the necessity of protecting non-sorcerers, leading him to vow to eliminate them to prevent the birth of more cursed spirits.

Geto's descent into extremism saw him leave the Jujutsu Sorcerers to massacre a village, including his own parents. He adopted the guise of a monk to lead a false religious organization, a choice designed by creator Gege Akutami to juxtapose the perceived trustworthiness of monks with Geto's true nature. His power, Cursed Spirit Manipulation, required him to consume cursed spirits—which appear as black orbs—to command them, a process that highlights the grim nature of his abilities.

The character's complexity is further heightened by his eventual death at the hands of Gojo during the prequel series. However, his story did not end there; his corpse was later hijacked by the sorcerer Kenjaku using a 'Brain Transplant' technique. This resurrection allowed Kenjaku to use Geto's abilities to pursue a goal of evolving humanity through Cursed Energy, echoing the Heian period. This narrative twist, while polarizing among fans, underscores the enduring and complicated legacy of the man once known as Suguru Geto.
