In short: She has reported live from ancient Egyptian tombs and anchored the launch of ESPN2. A pioneer in sports broadcasting, Suzy Kolber’s career spans decades of major network shifts, extreme sports, and even appearances in video games. Her journey includes everything from the Giza plateau to the NFL sidelines.

Born in the early 1960s in Pennsylvania, Suzy Kolber built a career defined by versatility. After graduating from the University of Miami, where she was a member of the water ski team, she moved through various production and anchoring roles. Her early work included serving as a sports director at Dynamic Cable in Florida and producing segments for WTVJ-TV in Miami, where she earned a local Sports Emmy in 1988.

Kolber became a foundational figure for ESPN2 during its 1993 launch. Her tenure at the network saw her covering a massive spectrum of athletics, from the X Games and Grand Slam tennis to the Triple Crown of horse racing. In 2006, she joined the Monday Night Football crew, helping the franchise become the most-watched program in cable history. In 2006, she made history as the inaugural woman to win the Maxwell Club Sports Broadcaster of the Year Award.

Her range extended far beyond the football field. In 1999, she co-hosted a non-sports archaeological event with Maury Povich, reporting live from the excavation of ancient tombs on the Giza plateau. Even her digital footprint is notable; her broadcast narratives were featured in the ESPN NFL Football video game for PlayStation 2.

Despite her prominence, her career has faced significant transitions. After a stint at Fox Sports, she returned to ESPN in 1999, eventually moving toward more in-studio work to balance family life. Following a long period of service that included stepping in for the late Stuart Scott, Kolber was among 20 employees laid off by ESPN in June 2023. In 2026, she began a new chapter hosting 'The Originals' for Scripps Sports.
