The largest cast in history faces a season of surprises
In short: For its 37th season, The Amazing Race expanded its roster to the largest cast ever seen in the American edition. This year, fourteen teams navigate over 29,000 miles across three continents, facing high-stakes twists like the Fork in the Road and a unique public U-Turn Vote.
Premiering on March 5, 2025, Season 37 is defined by its scale and structural variety. Featuring fourteen teams of two, it represents the largest cast for the American version of the show to date. The competition spans twelve legs across ten countries and regions—including first-time visits to Bulgaria and destinations like Indonesia, Germany, and Portugal—covering a total distance of 29,000 miles.
The season is branded as a 'Season of Surprises,' with every episode incorporating a game-changing twist. New mechanics include the Fork in the Road, where teams choose between distinct cultural tasks (such as lion dancing or Cantonese opera) and face immediate elimination for last place on their chosen path. Other new elements include the Driver's Seat, which allows one team to dictate the workload of others during a Roadblock, and Valet Roulette, requiring teams to blindly choose between manual or automatic cars.
The production also revitalized several fan-favorite mechanics that had been absent for years. Following a gap since Season 16, the Intersection came back, whereas the Fast Forward made its first return since a long break beginning in Season 29. Additionally, the season introduced the first standard Double U-Turn since Season 32 and moved the Head-to-Head to the middle of legs rather than just before Pit Stops. The final episode served as a tribute to longtime producer Jack Walworth following his death.
Despite the ambitious scope, production faced real-world hurdles. Filming concluded in Miami on June 14, 2024, but was delayed by multi-day flooding in South Florida. This season's winners were best friends Carson McCalley and Jack Dodge, who secured the US$1,000,000 grand prize.
