In short: After rising through the ranks of the Norwich City academy, Todd Cantwell has navigated a career spanning the English Championship, the Dutch Eredivisie, and the Scottish Premiership. Now leading Blackburn Rovers, his path reveals the volatile nature of professional footballing development.

Born in Dereham, Norfolk, on 27 February 1998, Todd Cantwell’s professional trajectory began much earlier than his senior debut. After entering Norwich City's academy as a ten-year-old in 2008, he achieved a nomination for the 2016–17 Premier League 2 player of the season trophy. His senior breakthrough arrived in January 2018, when he debuted against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Before his senior appearance, he was named as a substitute for two Norwich matches in October 2017. His first professional start for the club came in August 2018 against Stevenage.

The midfielder's career has been defined by significant transitions and loan spells designed to broaden his experience. Following his debut, he spent time in the Netherlands with Fortuna Sittard and in the English Championship with AFC Bournemouth. In January 2023, he moved to the Scottish Premiership to join Rangers for an undisclosed fee. During his tenure in Scotland, he became a notable figure, scoring crucial goals in victories against Motherwell and Celtic. His time in Scotland was marked by high-stakes performances, including a goal against Hibernian in early 2024. He also notably provided two assists for Teemu Pukki during a 3–1 win over Newcastle in 2019.

Cantwell's international pedigree includes representing England at both the under-17 and under-21 levels. His under-17 career included scoring against Finland during the 2014 Nordic tournament, while his under-21 involvement saw him called up to the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship squad as a replacement for the injured Mason Greenwood. In August 2024, he returned to England to sign a three-year deal with Blackburn Rovers, where he currently serves as captain. At the under-17 level, he earned a single goal across four total appearances. His recent history at Blackburn includes scoring a penalty in a November 2024 victory against Leeds.
