In short: In 1964, a group of Icelandic amateurs prepared for an impossible task: facing Liverpool FC in the European Cup. This archive clip captures the humble reality of a small club's journey to the continental stage.

The local club Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur (KR Reykjavik) became the first Icelandic representatives in the European Cup after winning a domestic league and cup double. Their squad was composed of everyday workers, including a grammar school student, a typesetter, a law student, and a refreshment salesman.

Despite their domestic success under coach Karl Gudmundsson, the team faced daunting odds against Bill Shankly's Liverpool FC. The English side featured luminaries like Roger Hunt and Ian Callaghan, leading KR Chairman Sigurgeir Guðmannsson to admit their chances were at "rock bottom."
