A lost sperm whale seeks refuge between the hulls of boats
In short: This video captures a vulnerable moment for a baby sperm whale that has lost contact with its caregivers. Watch as the calf seeks safety between boat hulls, raising the question of whether it can reunite with its mother in time.
The footage explores the complex social lives of marine mammals, highlighting the mental abilities and group communication of whales and dolphins. Researchers have even discovered that dolphins use individual names to communicate. Through the work of underwater cameramen Doug Allan and Didier Noirot, we gain rare insights into these extraordinary animals that challenge our understanding of their intelligence and connection to the human world.
