The high-stakes logistics of relocating Africa's tallest land animal
In short: Moving a 900kg giraffe across the savanna is a feat of precision engineering and animal husbandry. This documentary follows a specialized team as they navigate the dangerous complexities of private wildlife relocation.
The film explores the high-stakes industry of rewilding and restocking in South Africa, where iconic species are managed as valuable resources. It follows Ivan Carter and Grant Tracy’s team as they transition from moving smaller species like Kudu and Impala to the much more difficult task of capturing and relocating giraffes.
The operation utilizes a combination of helicopters and ground crews to move these massive animals. The documentary highlights a controversial but effective conservation model: private ownership and hunter-funded initiatives aimed at expanding the footprint of Africa's majestic wildlife.
