In short: In November 2023, Rajasthan voters participated in a high-stakes election that reinforced a striking political pattern. As the Indian National Congress lost its grip on power, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a decisive victory, continuing a cycle of government turnover that has defined the state's recent political history.

On 9 October 2023, the Election Commission of India released the timetable for the 2023 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly polls, marking a crucial period for the region. While the original polling date was set for 23 November 2023, it was later postponed to 25 November 2023. The process aimed to elect 199 of the 200 members of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, with the final results officially declared on 3 December 2023. On 9 October 2023, India's Election Commission released the formal timetable for this democratic vote.

The election outcome saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wrest power from the Indian National Congress. By winning 115 seats, the BJP unseated the incumbent Congress government, which had been led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot since the previous elections in December 2018. This victory for the BJP, which saw Bhajan Lal Sharma become the new Chief Minister, maintained a notable trend in Rajasthan where governments tend to change every five years. The Indian National Congress had previously established the state government following the December 2018 polls.

The election process was not without its complications. The contest for the Karanpur seat had to be adjourned following the death of the Rajasthan PCC candidate, Gurmeet Singh Kooner. Meanwhile, the political landscape was being analyzed even before the final count, as exit polls were released on 30 November 2023. The transition of power occurred as the previous assembly's scheduled tenure was set to conclude on 14 January 2024. Voters received their initial predictions via exit polls on 30 November 2023. The legislative term for the preceding assembly was slated to expire on 14 January 2024.
