In short: The 2024 World Series brought together two of baseball's most storied franchises: the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Featuring a historic matchup of league MVPs and a record-breaking performance by Freddie Freeman, this 120th edition of the championship series delivered high-stakes drama from start to finish.

In 2024, the World Series pitted the Los Angeles Dodgers (NL champions) against the New York Yankees (AL champions) in a seven-game playoff. This matchup was particularly significant as it marked the 12th time these rivals met in the World Series, the first such encounter since 1981. Both teams entered the postseason as the top seeds in their respective leagues, a feat that has occurred only five times during the Wild Card era (1995–present).

The series was defined by the individual brilliance of its players. Freddie Freeman secured MVP honours, matching a record with 12 RBIs and homering during the opening four matches. During Game 1, he delivered the inaugural walk-off grand slam seen in World Series history. Superstars Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge also made their World Series debuts during this series. Notably, this was the first time in MLB history that two batters who both hit 50 home runs in the same regular season faced each other in the World Series.

The Dodgers ultimately secured their eighth World Series title, winning the series 4-1. The victory was highlighted by a remarkable comeback in Game 5; despite trailing 5-0 heading into the 5th inning, the Dodgers overcame the deficit to tie the game in that same inning, aided by a series of Yankee errors. This performance set a record for the most runs scored from behind in a World Series-clinching game. While the Yankees sought their 28th title, the Dodgers' win marked their first back-to-back championships since the 2000 Yankees.
