The 2025 Dodgers made history by repeating as World Series champions in dramatic fashion
In short: After securing their eighth title the previous year, the Los Angeles Dodgers achieved a historic repeat in 2025. They became the first franchise to win back-to-back championships since the New York Yankees did so between 1998 and 2000, capping off a season defined by record-breaking starts and clutch postseason performances.
The 2025 campaign marked the 136th season for the Los Angeles Dodgers franchise. Starting their year in Tokyo, Japan, the team set a new standard by winning their first eight games, surpassing the 1933 New York Yankees' record of seven consecutive victories to open a season. This momentum carried through the year, as they clinched their 13th consecutive postseason appearance on September 19 and secured the National League West title for the fourth straight year.
The postseason run was a test of resilience. After sweeping the Cincinnati Reds and defeating the Philadelphia Phillies, the Dodgers overcame the Milwaukee Brewers to reach the World Series. Facing the Toronto Blue Jays, the series reached a climactic Game 7. In a historic feat, the Dodgers executed a late-inning rally on the road to force extra innings, eventually clinching the title with a 5–4 victory in the 11th frame. This made them the ninth team in history to win both Games 6 and 7 of a World Series away from home.
Individual excellence fueled the team's success. Shohei Ohtani earned his second consecutive MVP award—his fourth total—and added the NLCS MVP to his collection. Yoshinobu Yamamoto proved instrumental during the World Series, earning the MVP award for that round with three wins and a 1.04 ERA. Off the field, the team remained a massive draw, becoming the first in franchise history to surpass 4 million in home attendance, while maintaining the highest average attendance across all of Major League Baseball.
