The evolution of endurance racing in the heart of Asia
In short: From Malaysia to the United Arab Emirates, the 2025–26 Asian Le Mans Series represents a high-speed transition for sports car racing. This fourteenth season marks a pivotal moment where technical regulations shift and the landscape of regional motorsport matures into a sophisticated global stage.
The 2025–26 season serves as a significant milestone for the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), marking its fourth Le Mans-based series globally. This specific circuit follows in the footsteps of the American, European, and FIA World Endurance Championships. The upcoming calendar spans six four-hour races across three distinct international venues: Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit, the Dubai Autodrome in the United Arab Emirates, and Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit.
A major technical shift defines this season with the debut of third-generation LMP3 cars. However, this marks a period of transition for that specific class; while they compete in 2025–26, they will be removed from the main Asian Le Mans Series following the season. They are set to move into a newly created support category, the Asian Le Mans Cup, starting in the 2026-27 season.
The engineering of the fleet is strictly regulated to ensure parity and performance. In the LMP2 class, all cars are powered by Gibson GK428 V8 engines and utilize Michelin tyres. Conversely, the LMP3 class utilizes Toyota V35A-FTS 3.5 L twin-turbo V6 engines, also paired with Michelin rubber. This structured approach to machinery ensures that the competition remains a test of driver skill and team strategy across diverse climates.
The season has seen significant personnel reshuffling among the teams. Notable changes include Kriton Lendoudis joining Nielsen Racing to replace Naveen Rao, and John Falb moving to Algarve Pro Racing. Despite these shifts in the cockpit, the series maintains its status as a premier endurance platform, bridging the gap between regional racing and the world-renowned 24 Hours of Le Mans.
