In short: The 2026–27 BRI Super League marks a significant era for Indonesian football. As 18 teams prepare to battle for the title, the league faces new identities and strict regulations, including a recent shift in foreign player quotas and strict rules regarding club relocations.

The 2026–27 season, also known as the BRI Super League, is the 17th season of Indonesia's top-flight football league since its establishment in 2008. It is the second season under its current name. The campaign is scheduled to begin on 4 September 2026 and is expected to conclude in May 2027. This edition represents the second year the competition has operated under its present title.

The league features 18 teams, consisting of fifteen returning clubs and three promoted sides from the Championship. Among the newcomers are Garudayaksa, making its top-flight debut, PSS, returning after one season away, and Isenmulang Kalteng, which secured promotion via a playoff against Persipura on 8 May 2026. The promotion race concluded in early May 2026. Garudayaksa and PSS were the first to secure their spots during the final matchweek.

The league has also seen significant structural and identity shifts. Adhyaksa Banten has rebranded as Isenmulang Kalteng after relocating to Central Kalimantan to play at Tuah Pahoe Stadium. Similarly, Malut United has moved to Central Java to play at Jatidiri Stadium, rebranding as Java United. Both changes were ratified at the 2026 PSSI General Congress. These clubs must adhere to strict regulations, as relocating after obtaining an I-League license results in a two-point penalty.

To manage the quality of play, the I-League has increased the foreign player quota to eleven. However, matchday squad restrictions remain tight: only nine foreign players may be included in a single squad, with a limit of seven on the field and two on the bench at any time. The squad limits ensure that no more than seven foreign players are active on the pitch simultaneously.
