In short: Established in 1880, Billericay Town F.C. has evolved from a regional Essex side into a semi-professional powerhouse. While they have experienced periods of 'yo-yo' movement through the English football tiers, their ability to secure major trophies remains a defining part of their history.

The club's identity has shifted significantly since its founding as Billericay Football Club in 1880. After decades of competing in the Romford & District and Mid-Essex Leagues, the club adopted its current name in 1946. During the 1970s, the club enjoyed a trophy-laden period, securing consecutive league championships during 1974–75 and 1975–76, plus a landmark FA Vase win at Wembley. The club's early years included winning Division Two of the Mid-Essex League in both 1912–13 and the early 1930s. They were also among the original members of the Essex Olympian League when it launched in 1966.

Billericay's trophy cabinet is particularly distinguished by its success in the FA Vase, where they are the second most successful club in the competition's history, winning on three occasions: 1975–76, 1976–77, and 1978–79. This period of dominance also saw them achieve a remarkable 39-match unbeaten league run in the Athenian League between April 1979 and March 1980. In this prosperous period, Doug Young became the sole individual to net three goals during an FA Vase final held at the original Wembley. The club also secured the Athenian League title on their very first attempt in 1977.

The club's modern era has been characterized by both high-profile investment and structural volatility. In 2016, owner Glenn Tamplin funded significant signings, including former Premier League players Jamie O'Hara and Jermlamaine Pennant. However, the club has also navigated periods of relegation, such as falling from the Conference South in 2012–13 and the National League South in 2021–22. Today, they compete in the National League South, playing their home matches at the redeveloped New Lodge ground. The club's stadium, New Lodge, underwent a massive transformation in 2017 to increase its capacity to 5,000. This redevelopment included the construction of the Harry Parker Stand, which was later renamed the Glenn Tamplin Stand in 2023.
