In short: Tucked away on a barrier island in Florida's Martin County, the town of Jupiter Island is a rare tropical sanctuary. Known for its extreme affluence and exclusive atmosphere, this coastal community has long attracted high-profile figures, from political dynasties to sports icons, all seeking refuge along the Atlantic shore.

The town of Jupiter Island occupies a narrow barrier island stretching from the Palm Beach County line northward to the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the South Jupiter Narrows to the west, the town encompasses 3.6 square miles, with nearly a quarter of that area consisting of water. It is notably part of the only region within the 48 contiguous United States that experiences a tropical climate, typically classified as a tropical savanna or tropical monsoon environment.

The community is defined by its significant wealth and demographics. In June 1999, Worth magazine ranked the town first in the nation for its median home sale price. Census data from 2010 highlighted a population with a median age of 63.7 years, with nearly half of the residents aged 65 or older. The economic profile is equally striking; in 2010, the median household income was $199,167, while the median family income exceeded $250,000. Despite this, the town remains small, with the 2020 census recording a population of only 804 people.

Jupiter Island has served as a residence for a diverse array of influential individuals throughout its history. Notable past and present residents include U.S. President George H. W. Bush and his mother, Dorothy Walker Bush, as well as former Secretary of Defense Robert A. Lovett and diplomat W. Averell Harriman. The island's real estate market remains a focal point for the ultra-wealthy, evidenced by high-profile transactions such as the 2022 sale of professional golfer Greg Norman’s property to the family of Leslie Wexner, the founder of Victoria's Secret. Other notable residents have included tennis star Venus Williams, football coach Nick Saban, and Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti.
