The record-breaking precision of a ballroom champion
In short: Beyond the glitz of the ballroom floor lies a level of physical discipline that defies the eye. Nadiya Bychkova, a decorated champion of the '10' Dance, has mastered movements so rapid they earned her two Guinness World Records for speed and dexterity.
Born in Ukraine in 1989, Nadiya Bychragova transitioned from a highly decorated competitive career to becoming a household name on the British television show Strictly Come Dancing. Her competitive pedigree is significant, having secured multiple titles as a Slovenian Ballroom and Latin Champion, alongside two championships at both the World and European levels in '10' Dance. Her early professional experience includes performing on the Bosnian edition of the competition show.
Bychkova's technical mastery is evidenced by her achievements in the Guinness World Records. During her tenure on Strictly, she set two distinct records: the most 'fleckerls' performed in 30 seconds in 2020, and the most 'pat-a-cakes' in 30 seconds in 2021. These feats highlight the extreme neuromuscular control required for professional ballroom and Latin American dance. These rapid-fire movements were executed during her time as a professional on the British series.
Her time on the BBC competition spanned from 2017 to 2025, during which she partnered with a diverse array of celebrities, including EastEnders actor Davood Ghadami, singer Matt Goss, and Olympic swimmer Tom Dean. Despite the high-pressure environment of live dance-offs and leaderboard rankings, Bychkova remained a staple of the series until her departure was announced in March 2026. Her partners have included Lee Ryan, David James, and journalist Dan Walker. She also competed in three Christmas specials alongside Larry Lamb, Dan Snow, and Billy Monger.
While her professional life has been defined by rhythmic precision, her personal journey has seen various transitions, from her early career in the Bosnian version of the show to her recent starring role in the 2025 Netflix film, 10Dance. Her career has also seen her featured on the covers of FHM and the Ukrainian edition of Playboy.
