The man who used a massive weight loss as a social experiment
In short: For years, millions watched Nikocado Avocado consume enormous amounts of food on camera. But in September 2024, the internet personality revealed a startling truth: he had actually lost over 250 pounds in secret, using pre-recorded videos to maintain a deceptive online persona.
Nicholas Perry, known professionally as Nikocado Avocado, has built a career on theatrical, often turbulent performances. Born in Kherson, Ukraine, in 1992, Perry moved to the United States as an infant and later studied violin at the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, Drama, and Art. While he once performed at Carnegie Hall, his career shifted toward YouTube in 2014, eventually becoming a central figure in the mukbang trend.
The creator's recent revelation, shared in a video titled "Two Steps Ahead," detailed a massive physical transformation. Perry claimed to have lost over 250 pounds (approximately 114 kg) over a two-year period. To hide this progress from his audience, he continued to upload footage that had been recorded before the weight loss occurred. He described this deception as a social experiment designed to highlight how obsessively viewers consume the lives of internet personalities.
This revelation followed years of intense public scrutiny regarding his health and mental well-being. Perry had previously been open about the physical tolls of his lifestyle, including fractured ribs and the use of a mobility scooter. After losing weight, he had additional operations, such as a facelift and body lifts, to excise no less than 10 pounds (4.5 kg) of surplus skin. Throughout his career, Perry has admitted that much of his online conflict and persona are scripted, viewing his YouTube presence as a way to play a character and provide entertainment.
