In short: Maxwell Elliot Dent, known as PlaqueBoyMax, transformed from a high school basketball player into a pivotal hip-hop promoter. By hosting live-streamed music competitions and collaborative recording sessions, he introduced American audiences to the UK underground rap scene, eventually earning a Grammy nomination for his own musical contributions.

Born in West Orange, New Jersey, in 2003, Maxwell Elliot Dent began his digital career by creating prank videos with friends on a YouTube channel called Basement Boyz. After graduating high school in 2021, he took a gap year to pursue streaming full-time, eventually launching his Twitch career under the name PlaqueBoyMax. His early content focused on gaming and reaction videos, but he soon distinguished himself by hosting Song Wars, a tournament-style show where artists submitted music for ranking. This platform helped foster the 5$TAR collective, a group of friends and artists who became staples of his broadcast.

Dent’s influence expanded significantly after joining FaZe Clan in May 2024. Through his In The Booth series, he invited artists to record tracks live, which he then engineered and uploaded to streaming services. This hands-on approach to promotion helped elevate artists like Lazer Dim 700 and DDG. His reach grew to include high-profile collaborations, such as a January 2025 stream with Central Cee that drew over 127,000 concurrent viewers. By March 2025, he was recording in London with artists like Skepta and Nemzzz, further cementing his role in bridging the gap between the UK underground and American listeners.

His musical output has been prolific, spanning four extended plays and a debut mixtape, Five Forever, released in May 2025. His track Victory Lap, a collaboration with Fred Again and Skepta, earned recognition from the Recording Academy, receiving a nomination for a Grammy in the dance and electronic category. Despite health challenges and a brief departure from FaZe Clan in August 2025 to focus on his 5$TAR brand, Dent remains a prominent figure in hip-hop media. In 2026, he was ranked tenth on Complex's list of influential hip-hop media figures, reflecting his transition from a niche streamer to a significant cultural curator.
