In short: Quinn Simmons didn't start his career on a bike. Before becoming a staple of the UCI WorldTeam Lidl–Trek, he was a competitive ski mountaineer. This transition from snow to asphalt paved the way for a professional career defined by high-intensity breakaways and a notable

Simmons first gained international attention in the ski mountaineering circuit, securing a bronze medal in the cadet category at the 2017 World Championships. His pivot to road cycling proved remarkably successful; by 2018, he had captured both the American junior national titles for road racing and the time trial. This momentum carried him to the 2019 world junior road race championships, where he took the title.

His professional ascent was marked by a rapid rise in the European circuit. In July 2021, he secured his first professional win and overall lead at the Tour de Wallonie. He quickly moved into the elite tier of the sport, making his Grand Tour debut at the 2021 Vuelta a España. During that race, he demonstrated his ability to stay with the lead group, eventually finishing third in a final sprint behind Magnus Cort and Rui Oliveira.

Simmons has become known for his versatility as both a mountain specialist and a dedicated domestique. In 2022, he dominated the mountains classification at the Tour de Suisse, even maintaining his lead while 29 riders were forced to withdraw due to a Covid outbreak. He also showcased his grit during the Tour de France, where he was awarded the Most Combative Rider title after a grueling stage 14 effort that left him physically exhausted.

His career has not been without controversy. In late 2020, he faced a team suspension from Trek–Segafredo following a racially insensitive interaction on Twitter involving a Dutch journalist. Although he was reinstated in November of that year, the incident remains a significant footnote in his professional narrative. Today, he continues to compete at the highest level of the sport, balancing team tactics with his own ambitions for the podium.
