In short: In September 1890, riders from across the globe converged on the United States for the Steel Ball Run. This grueling horse race stretched from San Diego to New York City, pitting competitors against each other and the elements in a high-stakes pursuit of a massive fortune.

Hirohiko Araki's seventh JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga instalment revolves around the Steel Ball Run storyline. Set in September 1890, the race is a transcontinental horse race that begins in San Diego and concludes in New York City. The stakes are immense, with a prize of 50 million USD offered to the winner. The competition spans the entire country. This event brings together riders from every corner of the world. The massive purse attracts intense competition from many nations.

The journey follows Johnny Joestar, a former jockey who is paraplegic, and his ally Gyro Zeppeli, a Neapolitan. Johnny joins the race to study Gyro's mysterious 'Spin' technique, a skill that briefly restores Johnny's mobility. As the two navigate the race, they must survive various attacks from ruthless competitors who threaten their progress.

The series has been adapted into an anime television series by David Production. Following an announcement in April 2025 during the JoJoday event, the adaptation premiered on Netflix. The first stage of the race aired on March 19, 2026, with subsequent stages released later that year. The production features music by Yugo Kanno and an opening theme titled 'Spin' performed by Kroi.

While the series has gained significant attention, the anime's first original ending theme, 'Shinu ka Ikiru ka' performed by Yuki Chiba, faced online criticism. Many viewers found the track lackluster when compared to previous ending themes in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise.
