Andreas Mogensen takes command of the International Space Station as the sixth European leader.

On September 26, 2023, ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen assumed command of the International Space Station. This transition marks a significant milestone for European space exploration, detailing his responsibilities for crew safety and station operations during the remainder of his mission.

During a traditional ceremony, outgoing commander Sergey Prokopyev transferred the symbolic key of the station to Mogensen. As the sixth European to hold this position, Mogensen is tasked with managing the crew's daily activities and maintaining the overall integrity and operation of the ISS.

Mogensen will continue in this leadership role throughout the duration of his Huginn mission, which is scheduled to conclude in early 2024.
