Can Archer Aviation's Midnight EVTOL replace the metropolitan helicopter?

Scott Manley tours Archer Aviation's San Jose facility to examine the Midnight EVTOL. This electric aircraft uses 12 rotors to transport passengers across cities, aiming to offer a quieter, cleaner, and more accessible alternative to traditional helicopters.

The Midnight EVTOL is designed for rapid urban transit, operating from helipads to move passengers efficiently. Archer Aviation develops its own core technologies in-house, including high-performance engines, battery systems, and avionics. During the visit, CTO Tom Muniz provided a technical overview of these components, which are central to the aircraft's performance capabilities.

The aircraft's design prioritizes ease of flight and reduced environmental impact compared to conventional rotorcraft. Manley also tests the company's flight simulator, offering a glimpse into the pilot experience for this new class of electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle.
