The high-stakes logistics of life aboard the International Space Station
In short: Watch the final moments before launch and the immediate aftermath of the June 7, 2011, Soyuz mission. This footage captures the transition from Earth to orbit for the flight engineers of Expedition 28.
The video documents the journey of Mike Fossum, Sergei Volkov, and Satoshi Furukawa as they launched toward the International Space Station. It provides a rare look at the pre-launch atmosphere in Baikonur, Kazakhstan, and includes post-launch interviews with NASA spaceflight operations officials.
Expedition 28 was a period of intense scientific inquiry, including the installation of a dark matter experiment and tests of the Robonaut astronaut helper. The crew also investigated how microgravity impacts human vision, the body, and the mind, while conducting various spacewalks throughout 2011.
