The final voyage of an era: meeting the STS-135 crew
In short: Watch the four astronauts who would fly the Space Shuttle Atlantis on its final mission, STS-135. This footage captures their press interaction at Kennedy Space Center following critical launch preparations.
The video features Commander Chris Ferguson, Pilot Doug Hurley, and Mission Specialists Sandy Magnus and Rex Walheim during a media Q&A session at Launch Pad 39A in Florida. The event took place after the crew completed their Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (TCDT), a vital procedure where personnel familiarize themselves with equipment and protocols for the final launch sequence.
The significance of this mission was marked by high-level recognition, including a meeting with President Obama in November 2011. During that meeting, the crew observed the presentation of a flight jacket adorned with patches from various previous shuttle missions, symbolizing the conclusion of the program.
