The logistical hurdles of returning astronauts to Earth

Garan Gets Home on This Week @NASA · 9:42 · Video: NASA · Watch at the source

In short: Watch the conclusion of a mission marked by unexpected delays. This video covers the safe return of Ron Garan and his crew, highlighting the technical failures that briefly grounded the International Space Station's logistics.

The Soyuz spacecraft successfully landed in the Kazakhstan steppe, bringing home NASA astronaut Ron Garan and flight engineers Andrey Borisenko and Alexander Samokutyaev after a mission beginning April 6. Their return was delayed by just over a week due to a failure of the Progress 44 cargo craft on August 24. Following an investigation by the Russian Federal Space Agency, crew flights are tentatively scheduled to resume on November 14 with the Soyuz 28 mission, which will transport Dan Burbank, Anatoly Ivanishin, and Anton Shkaplerov to the station by November 16.
