A first-time journey to the poles of the solar system's giant
In short: NASA's Juno spacecraft is set to begin a 20-month orbital journey around Jupiter. This mission marks a historic first as it prepares to survey the planet's poles to unlock secrets about its core and magnetic fields.
Jupiter will be orbited 37 times by the vessel, which shall fly within 3,100 miles (5,000 kilometers) of the cloud layers. Such closeness enables a thorough examination of what the Jovian sphere is made of.
By orbiting the poles for the first time in history, Juno aims to provide new data on the planet's internal structure, specifically its core and magnetic fields.
