A five-year voyage to decode the mysteries of Jupiter
In short: NASA's Juno spacecraft has officially begun its long journey to the gas giant. This mission aims to peel back the layers of Jupiter to reveal what lies beneath its massive atmosphere.
The spacecraft is embarking on a five-year cruise from the Kennedy Space Center to study three core components of Jupiter: its internal structure, atmosphere, and magnetosphere. Beyond these primary goals, Juno will provide high-resolution imagery of the planet's surface and capture the first detailed views of its poles.
The mission also contributes to broader planetary science by investigating potential water flows on Mars, seeking out oxygen in space, and examining debris from the Space Shuttle Columbia.
