A Vatican connection to the International Space Station
In short: Witness a unique moment of Earth-to-orbit diplomacy as Pope Benedict XVI connects with astronauts aboard the International Space Station and the shuttle Endeavour.
This footage captures a special link-up between the Vatican and the crews of Expedition 27 and STS-134. During the communication, the Pope held an extensive conversation with two Italian astronauts from the European Space Agency: Paolo Nespoli, part of the Expedition 27 crew, and Roberto Vittori, a member of the shuttle Endeavour crew. As a gesture of the occasion, Vittori carried a silver medal donated by the Pope on his mission.
