Preparing for orbit: astronauts visit historic Russian space landmarks
In short: Before launching to the International Space Station, the Expedition 46-47 crew visited Russia's most significant space sites to honor the history of human spaceflight.
The crew, including Soyuz Commander Yuri Malenchenko, NASA's Tim Kopra, and ESA's Tim Peake, visited the Gagarin Museum at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City on November 23. Following this, the group traveled to Moscow to lay flowers at the Kremlin Wall in Red Square, a site where Russian space icons are interred.
This visit serves as a final preflight ritual before the crew's scheduled launch on December 15. They are set to travel to the International Space Station aboard the Soyuz TMA-19M spacecraft for a mission lasting six months.
