Three astronauts return to Earth after six months aboard the International Space Station
In short: This video documents the safe landing of Expedition 31 crew members Oleg Kononenko, Don Pettit, and Andre Kuipers. After spending over six months in orbit, the trio returned to the Kazakh steppe, marking the beginning of their physical readaptation to Earth's gravity.
On July 1, 2012, the Expedition 31 crew concluded their mission by landing their Soyuz TMA-03M spacecraft near Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan. The team, consisting of a NASA flight engineer, a European Space Agency flight engineer, and a commander, spent a total of 193 days in space, with 191 of those days served aboard the International Space Station.
The mission launched in late December 2011. Upon extraction from the capsule, the crew required assistance into reclining chairs, a standard procedure to support their bodies as they adjusted to gravity after their extended time in a microgravity environment.
