Returning from orbit: The post-landing journey of the Expedition 30 crew

Warm Welcome in Kazakhstan and Russia for Expedition 30 · 13:37 · Video: NASA · Watch at the source

In short: After spending nearly six months aboard the International Space Station, the Expedition 30 crew touched down on the Kazakh steppe. This video documents their traditional welcome ceremony in Kustanai and captures the moment the team parted ways to return to their respective home bases.

On April 27, 2012, Commander Dan Burbank of NASA, along with Russian cosmonauts Anton Shkaplerov and Anatoly Ivanishin, landed their Soyuz TMA-22 spacecraft in Kazakhstan. The mission, which began with a launch in November, concluded with a formal greeting at the Kustanai airport.

Following the ceremony, the crew members separated to continue their post-flight procedures. Shkaplerov and Ivanishin traveled to the Star City training facility in Russia, while Burbank departed for the Johnson Space Center in Houston. The footage features an interview with Burbank recorded in Kustanai prior to his flight back to the United States.
