Inside the high-stakes room where satellites find their way home
In short: Go behind the scenes at the European Space Agency's mission control center in Darmstadt, Germany. This footage captures the intense atmosphere of engineers preparing to launch a radar-sensing satellite into orbit.
The video features spacecraft operations engineer Thomas Ormston interviewing the team 'on console' during the preparations for the Soyuz flight VS14 on April 24, 2016. The mission's primary objective was to deploy the Sentinel-1B radar-sensing satellite.
While the team worked to ensure a successful launch, an anomaly with the launcher forced a halt in the countdown just 75 minutes after this recording. The mission eventually proceeded the following day, successfully liftoffing at 23:02 CEST on April 25, 2016.
