In short: Bridgestone Arena isn't just a home for hockey; it is a site of corporate drama, legal battles, and architectural homage. From being stripped of its name due to fraudulent naming rights to hosting record-breaking concerts, the venue has navigated a complex history of identity and infrastructure.

Completed in 1996 as the Nashville Arena, the building was designed by HOK Sport (now Populous) and Hart Freeland Roberts, INC. Its unique angled position at Broadway and 5th Avenue serves as a physical homage to the historic Ryman Auditorium. While it is primarily known today as the home of the NHL's Nashville Predators since 1998, its identity has been in constant flux due to various naming rights agreements.

The venue experienced significant turmoil regarding its branding. In 1999, it became the Gaylord Entertainment Center following an $80 million contract. However, after a falling out in 2005, the name was eventually stripped from all signage by 2007. It then became the Sommet Center in May 2007, but this era ended in scandal: the Predators sued Sommet Group for breach of contract in 2009 following failed payments. The situation culminated in July 2010 when the FBI and IRS raided Sommet's headquarters due to suspected fraudulent activities; its founder was eventually convicted of fraud.

The arena has undergone continuous physical evolution to maintain its status as a premier venue. This includes a $3.6 million 'megatron' scoreboard installed in 2007 to replace an obsolete octagonal model, and the 2019 installation of 'FangVision.' It also features a unique south end with two large roof support columns and no mid-level seating, which places upper-level seats closer to the floor. Despite its history, it remains a versatile hub, hosting everything from UFC fights and PBR bull riding to record-breaking concerts by artists like Nate Bargatze.
