In short: Beyond the colorful bricks lies a complex feat of engineering and investment. From a RM720 million theme park to 1:20 scale replicas of Asian landmarks, discover how this Malaysian resort transformed a massive construction project into a global destination.

Located in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, the Legoland Malaysia Resort represents a significant industrial and tourism undertaking. The project began with a formal agreement in December 2008 between site developer Iskandar Investment Berhad and operator Merlin Entertainments. Following a groundbreaking ceremony on 2 December 2009, the development expanded into a multi-faceted resort. The initial construction of the theme park and the Legoland Water Park required an investment of RM720 million, while the subsequent development of the Legoland Hotel cost an additional RM190 million.

The resort's architecture and attractions are meticulously themed to create immersive environments. The park's layout progresses from 'The Beginning' through zones such as Technic, Kingdoms, Imagination, Land of Adventure, and City. Notably, the 'Miniland' section serves as a masterclass in precision, using almost 30 million bricks over a three-year period to recreate iconic Asian landmarks at a 1:20 scale. One standout feature is the reproduction of the Petronas Towers, which stands nearly 10 metres high and utilizes over 500,000 LEGO bricks.

The resort has continuously evolved since its official opening by the Sultan of Johor on 22 September 2012. Following the 2013 opening of the Water Park, the resort added the NINJAGO World in 2016 and the SEA LIFE Malaysia aquarium in 2019. This expansion has seen the resort push technological boundaries, such as the launch of the world's first LEGO virtual reality roller coaster in November 2017, cementing its position as a leader in interactive themed entertainment in Asia.
