Everton marks its 149th year with a historic run in the English top flight
In short: As Everton enters its 149th season, the club maintains its remarkable streak of 73 consecutive years in English football's premier division. This campaign sees the team balancing domestic league duties with high-stakes appearances in both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup, supported by a new partnership with CMC Markets.
The 2026–27 season represents a significant milestone for Everton, cementing its long-standing presence at the pinnacle of the sport. The club's continued participation in the top flight is a testament to its enduring legacy, having now reached 73 years of uninterrupted competition at this elite level. To prepare for the rigors of the upcoming schedule, the team organized a series of pre-season friendlies, beginning with a match against Newcastle United in Edinburgh, which was announced on 28 May.
Beyond the initial fixture, the club confirmed six additional warm-up matches throughout June. These games featured a diverse range of opponents, including Scottish side Dundee, English clubs Bolton Wanderers and Stoke City, as well as international challengers Hamburger SV, VfB Stuttgart, and Lille. This rigorous preparation was essential as the team geared up for the official Premier League schedule, which was formally released to the public on 19 June 2026.
The club's cup journey has been equally demanding. Entering the EFL Cup in the second round, Everton faced an away challenge against Preston North End. Subsequent draws placed them on home turf for the third and fourth rounds, where they were tasked with overcoming Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United, respectively. These matches highlight the competitive intensity that defines the season, as the club navigates both league ambitions and the knockout pressure of domestic cup tournaments while managing its new commercial partnership with CMC Markets.
