From oil rig scaffolder to the bright lights of reality television and professional combat
In short: Before he was a household name on MTV, Aaron Chalmers worked as a scaffolder on an oil rig. His journey from industrial labor to the global stage of MMA and boxing reveals a career defined by high-stakes transitions and intense physical competition.
Born on 26 May 1987, Aaron Chalmers first entered the public eye through reality television. He joined the cast of Geordie Shore in April 2014 for its eighth series, remaining a fixture of the show until the sixteenth series. His television presence expanded into spin-offs like Geordie Shore OGs in 2019 and appearances on Ex on the Beach, where he appeared alongside Maisie Gillespie. His television journey also included the sixth series of Ex on the Beach, which premiered on 17 January 2017. Looking ahead, a return to the Geordie Shore cast for its twenty-sixth series has been announced for 2025.
Parallel to his media career, Chalmers pursued a professional combat sports trajectory. After training in Muay Thai, he entered the MMA arena in May 2017, securing an early victory against Greg Jenkins. His tenure in promotions like BAMMA saw notable wins via knockout and technical knockout against Alex Thompson and Karl Donaldson. In March 2018, he transitioned to Bellator, where his record included a first-round technical submission victory over Ash Griffiths at Wembley Arena, though he also faced setbacks, including a third-round submission loss to American Corey Browning. His MMA career also included a 2019 submission win over Fred Freeman and a February 2020 welterweight bout against Austin Clem, which ended in a unanimous decision loss. He also competed in a wildcard bout against Kiefer Crosbell in Dublin in July 2023.
Following his MMA retirement announcement in February 2021, Chalmers pivoted to professional boxing in March 2022. His boxing career has featured high-profile exhibition matches, such as an eight-round bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr. at London's O2 Arena in February 2023. More recently, he has entered the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, securing a technical knockout victory against Chas Symonds in Dubai in April 2025, before facing Darren Till in May 2026. In the boxing ring, he faced Alexander Zeledon in June 2022, winning by points, and later faced Idris Virgo in September 2023. His recent foray into bare-knuckle fighting saw a second-round knockout loss to Darren Till in May 2026.
