In short: In 1987, Antony Perumbavoor was working as a driver on a film set. A chance encounter with superstar Mohanlal transformed his life, leading him from the driver's seat to the helm of Aashirvad Cinemas, an empire spanning production, distribution, and international exhibition.

The trajectory of Antony Perumbavoor is defined by a pivotal meeting in 1987. While working as a driver on the set of the film Pattanapravesham, Perumbavoor was tasked with picking up Mohanlal from Ambalamugal. This encounter, which lasted for the remainder of the film's 22-day shooting schedule, eventually led to Perumbavoor becoming the actor's personal chauffeur after the actor's regular driver, Mohanan Nair, faced health issues.

In 1999, Perumbavorat transitioned from the film industry's periphery to its center by founding Aashirvad Cinemas. The company's debut, the action drama Narasimham, became the highest-grossing Malayalam film at that time. His business reach expanded significantly over the following decades, including the 2009 co-founding of the distribution company Maxlab Cinemas and Entertainments alongside Mohanlal and industrialist K. C. Babu.

Today, Perumbavoor's influence extends globally and across the entire cinematic supply chain. He owns the Aashirvad Cineplexx multiplex chain and has established an international presence with an office in Hong Kong via Feitian Aashirvad Cinemas and a Dubai office in Business Bay. His industry leadership is further evidenced by his roles within the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK), where he has served as president since July 2017.

Beyond business, Perumbavoor is a decorated producer, holding two National Film Awards and four Kerala State Film Awards for films such as Spirit (2012) and Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham (2021). He is frequently cited by industry colleagues and family members of Mohanlal as a vital confidante and protector of the superstar's interests.
