A modern salaryman reincarnates as a noble to reshape his world through talent scouting
In short: After dying, a Japanese office worker awakens as Ars Louvent, a young aristocrat in a fantasy realm. Gifted with the unique ability to measure the hidden potential of those around him, he begins recruiting talented outcasts to secure his territory and survive an impending war for the throne.
The narrative, penned by Miraijin A, first appeared on the web platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō in October 2019. It follows the journey of a protagonist who finds himself reborn into the House Louvent. Unlike his peers, Ars possesses a supernatural appraisal skill that allows him to quantify the specific aptitudes of individuals, ranging from combat prowess and magical talent to strategic brilliance and diplomatic finesse.
Ars uses this power to build a formidable retinue of allies, including the marginalized warrior Ritsu and the powerful mage Charlotte Wraith. By identifying these hidden gems, he transforms his modest territory of Lamberk into a significant political force. This preparation becomes vital as he navigates a brutal succession conflict between the brothers Couran and Vasmarque Saremakia, eventually rising to become the Lord of Canarre.
The franchise has expanded significantly since its digital debut. Kodansha began publishing the light novel series with illustrations by Jimmy in July 2020, and a manga adaptation by Natsumi Inoue launched that same June. The story has also been adapted into an anime television series, which saw its third season premiere in September 2026. As of June 2026, the light novel spans nine volumes, while the manga has reached twenty-one collected editions.
At its core, the series explores the intersection of meritocracy and feudal politics. Ars must constantly weigh the risks of his recruits' personalities—such as his fiancée's high ambition—against their utility. Through these complex interpersonal dynamics, the story examines how one individual's ability to recognize and cultivate talent can alter the fate of an entire kingdom.
