In short: At age 20, a genetic knee condition forced Brendan Rodgers into an abrupt retirement from professional football. Yet, the former defender from Northern Ireland transformed a lost playing career into a journey through the highest echelons of the game, from Chelsea's academy to the helm of Liverpool and Celtic.

Rodgers' ascent was not immediate. After his playing days ended, he spent years studying coaching methods across Spain. His breakthrough came in 2004 when José Mourinho invited him to join Chelsea as a youth manager. He eventually rose to become the club's reserve manager, a role he held under managers Avram Grant and Luiz Felipe Scolari.

His managerial path was marked by both historic triumphs and sudden departures. At Swansea City, he achieved a milestone in 2011, leading the club to become the first Welsh team ever promoted to the Premier League. At Liverpool, he guided the squad to a runners-up finish in the 2013–14 season, a campaign where the team scored 101 league goals, their highest since 1895–96.

In Scotland, Rodgers achieved unprecedented domestic dominance with Celtic. He led the club to a 'Double Treble'—winning three trophies in two consecutive seasons—and oversaw an unbeaten domestic season in 2016–17. During this period, he also broke a century-old record, surpassing the 62-game unbeaten domestic streak set by Willie Maley’s team in 1917, extending the run to 65 games.

Despite these heights, his career has seen volatility. He left Reading by mutual consent after just six months in 2009, and was dismissed by Liverpool in October 2015 following a 1–1 draw against Everton. Today, his journey continues in the Saudi Pro League as the head coach of Al Qadsiah.
