In short: After a professional career defined by heavy punches and UFC bouts, Brendan Schaub traded the cage for the microphone. But his journey from a decorated MMA fighter to a prominent podcast host and comedian involves more than just a change in scenery.

Brendan Schaub's athletic foundation was built in the ring and on the gridiron. Originally a football player at the University of Colorado, Schaub transitioned to combat sports after retiring from football in 2007. He quickly found success in boxing, earning a Colorado heavyweight Golden Gloves title after just six months of training. This momentum carried into mixed martial arts, where he secured the Ring of Fire heavyweight championship and eventually joined the UFC in 2009 as a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter.

His tenure in the UFC was marked by significant victories and high-profile losses. Notable moments included a third-round knockout of Mirko Cro Cop, which earned him a 'Knockout of the Night' bonus, and a unanimous decision win over Lavar Johnson. However, the physical toll of the sport led to a series of knockout losses against opponents like Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira and Ben Rothwell. Following a loss to Travis Browne in late 2014, and after receiving advice from commentator Joe Rogan, Schaub officially retired from MMA in October 2015.

Since retiring, Schaub has carved out a new niche in digital media and stand-up comedy. Alongside Bryan Callen, he co-hosted The Fighter and the Kid, a podcast that transitioned from the FOX network to independent production. His media presence expanded through solo ventures like the Big Brown Breakdown and Below the Belt, as well as comedy specials such as You'd Be Surprised. His career has also been touched by industry-wide turbulence, including a 2023 dispute where he and other creators claimed they were owed millions by Kast Media.
