In short: In a fantasy world where humans called Blazers materialize weapons from their souls, Ikki Kurogane is considered the worst. Labeled with an F-Rank and mocked as 'The Worst One,' he must rely on tactical precision and intense training to challenge the elite and prove his worth.

The series, written by Riku Misora and illustrated by Won, follows Ikki Kurogane, an F-Rank Blazer at Hagun Academy. Despite his low magical abilities, Ikki utilizes a technique called 'Blade Steal' and a more advanced version called 'Perfect Vision' to predict his opponents' movements. He also employs 'Ittō Shura,' a Noble Art that pushes his physical capabilities beyond human limits. His unique ability, Blade Steal, allows him to learn his enemies' tactics. Through Perfect Vision, he can even anticipate their thoughts.

Ikki's journey is defined by his struggle against both rivals and his own lineage. As a member of the distinguished Kurogane Family, he faced ill treatment from his family during his childhood. His journey toward excellence faces obstacles from the Seven Star Sword Art Festival, a yearly competition hosted by Japan's seven Mage Knight Academies to identify the premier Apprentice Knight. His family's high status and his poor grades caused him to repeat a year. He must succeed in the tournament to avoid failing his graduation requirements.

The narrative introduces Stella Vermillion, a red-haired A-Rank Blazer and princess of the European country Vermillion. Regarded as a once-in-a-decade genius, Stella's power was once difficult for her to control, causing her burns as a child. The two form a relationship while training to qualify as Hagun Academy's representatives for the tournament. After losing a duel to Ikki, she agreed to live with him as his roommate. This arrangement stems from his only merciful request during their fight.

The light novel series, which published nineteen volumes between July 2013 and December 2023, has achieved significant commercial success, selling 1.5 million print copies by February 2017. The story has also been adapted into a manga and an anime produced by Silver Link and Nexus. A manga adaptation was released between 2014 and 2017. Additionally, an anime series aired in late 2015.
