In short: In the aftermath of the 'Red Day' catastrophe, the survivors live in isolation to avoid infection. But for a new generation, the ruins of civilization are not just graveyards—they are territories waiting to be reclaimed from the zombies.

Katsuwo's manga series, I'm Looking for Zombies, presents a post-apocalyptic landscape shaped by a single catastrophic event known as 'Red Day.' This mysterious disease is responsible for killing approximately 90 percent of the human population. In the thirteen years following the outbreak, the surviving humans have retreated into isolated villages, living in hiding to prevent further infection. This devastating outbreak left only a small fraction of the population alive. These survivors must remain sequestered in remote settlements to ensure the contagion does not spread further.

The narrative focuses on Aki, a courageous young woman born after the 'Red Day' event. Aki belongs to a younger generation that is beginning to challenge the status quo of isolation. Rather than remaining hidden, Aki and her friends venture into the ruins of human civilization. Their journey is driven by two goals: finding Aki's missing father and uncovering the secrets behind the zombie apocalypse. Aki's quest involves navigating the remnants of a fallen society. Along with her companions, she seeks to discover the truth regarding the global catastrophe.

Since its initial run in ASCII Media Works's Comic Dengeki Daioh "g" magazine between June 27, 2022, and November 27, 2023, this series has branched into various media. An anime television series adaptation, produced by Studio Comet and directed by Shinya Une, premiered on October 3, 2026, on TV Asahi's IMAnimation block. While the manga was collected into three tankōbon volumes between December 2022 and January 2024, Yen Press announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 that an English omnibus edition would be published. The animated version features music by Kenta Higashiohji. Additionally, the series is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
