From local cover bands to global stadiums: the rise of drummer Isaac Carpenter
In short: Isaac Carpenter has built a career as a versatile percussionist, moving from the independent rock scene in Washington to the world's biggest stages. After years of touring with diverse acts ranging from Adam Lambert to Awolnation, he reached a career milestone in 2025 by joining Guns N' Roses.
Born in 1979, Isaac Heath Carpenter began his musical journey in the Tri-Cities of Washington. In 1995, he co-founded the quartet Loudermilk, which initially operated as a Guns N' Roses cover band. The group eventually transitioned into the alternative rock outfit Gosling, shifting their sound to incorporate influences like Queen and The Smashing Pumpkins. This early period was marked by the challenges of the music industry, including label changes and the pursuit of a major-label breakthrough.
Carpenter's reputation as a reliable and skilled drummer led to a series of high-profile collaborations. He performed with Duff McKagan's Loaded, stepping in during 2009 for a tour across Europe, the UK, and Ireland. His versatility allowed him to pivot between genres, later joining Adam Lambert’s Glam Nation Tour in 2010, where he performed across four continents. These experiences solidified his standing as a go-to musician for live performances and studio recordings, including work with artists such as Tyga and The Exies.
The most significant shift in Carpenter's career occurred in 2025. Following a decade-long tenure with the alternative rock band Awolnation, he was named the new drummer for Guns N' Roses. This appointment reunited him with his former Loaded bandmate, Duff McKagan. His debut with the legendary group took place during their 2025 world tour, marking a full-circle moment for a musician who once started his career playing their songs in a high school band.
