From humble beginnings to the top flight: the evolution of Dewa United Banten

The club originated as Martapura FC, founded in 2009 and officially joining the PSSI that March. Its early years were defined by a rapid ascent through the Indonesian league system. After participating in the 2009–10 Third Division, the team climbed to the Second Division by 2011. A successful 2013 campaign in the First Division saw the club promoted again, relying heavily on local talent during these formative years.
A significant turning point occurred on 22 February 2021, when Garibaldi Thohir, Rendra Soedjono, and Kevin Hardiman acquired the club. This ownership change triggered a rebranding to Martapura Dewa United and a move to South Tangerang. The team quickly proved its competitive mettle, securing promotion to the top-flight Liga 1 after a dramatic 1–0 victory over PSIM Yogyakarta in the 2021 third-place match, decided by a last-minute goal from Gufroni Al Maruf.
By 30 May 2022, the club officially dropped 'Martapura' from its name, becoming simply Dewa United. The team solidified its regional identity on 23 February 2025 with the 'Banten Warriors Declaration' at Banten International Stadium. This evolution culminated in a runner-up finish in the 2024–25 Liga 1 season, earning the club a spot in the 2025–26 AFC Challenge League. Beyond the pitch, the club embraces the 'Deluxe Unicorn' as its nickname, drawing on local mythology to symbolize strength and purity.
The club's identity is deeply tied to its mascot, the golden horn unicorn, which is said to represent joy and courage. This mythological connection reflects the club's broader ambition to serve as a symbol for the Banten region. With a dedicated supporter base known as Anak Dewa, the organization has successfully transitioned from a local entity into a prominent force in Indonesian professional football.
