In short: When former classmates reunite fifteen years after graduation, they must confront the ghosts of their past. Jaanu, a 2020 Telugu-language romantic drama, explores how a single misunderstanding can alter the course of two lives forever, turning a simple school reunion into a profound meditation on nostalgia and missed opportunities.

Directed by C. Prem Kumar, Jaanu is a remake of his own 2018 Tamil film, 96. The story follows Ram, a travel photographer, and Jaanu, a talented singer, as they reconnect during a reunion for their 2004 graduating batch. Their relationship, which began in tenth grade, was severed by a series of tragic misunderstandings and life circumstances, including Ram's family relocating to Hyderabad overnight due to financial difficulties.

The narrative tension hinges on a pivotal moment at Jaanu's college. Years earlier, Ram and his friend Satish waited outside her college to meet her, but Jaanu—unaware of their presence—mistook them for stalkers and forbade any further contact. This error, combined with Jaanu's subsequent marriage in Singapore, left both characters to navigate decades of longing and solitude.

The film's emotional resonance is heavily supported by its musical score, composed by Govind Vasantha. While many tracks were retained from the original Tamil version—such as 'Anthaathi' (re-titled 'Anantham') and 'Kaathale Kaathale' (re-titled 'Oohale')—the soundtrack was tailored for the Telugu audience. The film's release on 7 February 2020 offered a cathartic, albeit heartbreaking, exploration of how people come to terms with the lives they lived versus the ones they imagined.

Despite being a remake, the film was also dubbed into Tamil under the same title. Critics have noted that while the film is a faithful recreation of the original, it serves as a poetic ode to the complexities of memory and the enduring nature of first loves.
