In short: Founded in 1931 as a small grassroots organization, Kitchee SC has evolved into one of Hong Kong's most successful professional football clubs. From surviving wartime destruction to achieving multiple domestic trebles, the club's journey reflects a resilient rise to prominence in the Hong Kong Premier League.

Kitchee SC was established in 1931, though its early years were defined by financial struggles. As a grassroots organization, the club initially lacked the necessary funding for administrative and facility costs. By 1934, they had secured sufficient funds to lease a 130 Johnston Road workspace in Wan Chai, which facilitated their entry into the Hong Kong Football Association. The club's operations were later suspended for three years and eight months during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong, which began on 25 December 1941.

The club experienced a significant rise to prominence between 1947 and 1964, a period that saw them win three Hong Kong First Division titles. This era was defined by legendary figures like Yiu Cheuk Yin, known as the "Treasure of Hong Kong Football," and Lam Sheung Yee, who was part of every trophy-winning squad between 1948 and 1964. After a period of instability and relegation, the club underwent modernization in the late 1980s under chairman Law Ding Chun, who introduced player insurance to provide peace of mind for his squad.

In recent decades, Kitchee has become a dominant force, securing 13 league titles in total. This includes seven Hong Kong Premier League titles and seven Hong Kong First Division titles. The club has achieved the domestic treble on four separate occasions, most notably during the 2014–15 season under manager José Francisco Molina. They also made history in the AFC Champions League, becoming the first Hong Kong club to win a group stage game in 2018 and the first to advance to the round of 16 in the 2022 tournament.

Beyond domestic success, Kitchee has consistently represented Hong Kong on the continental stage. They have competed in the AFC Cup and the AFC Champions League, setting a record for a Hong Kong club by accumulating 11 points in the 2021 AFC Champions League. Their official supporters group, the Blue Wave, was established in 2011 to provide fans with special perks.
