A high schooler's power to kill anything at will
In short: When Yogiri Takatou was summoned to another world, he was left to die for lacking a special ability. However, he possesses a terrifying secret: he can kill anyone or anything simply by willing it, making him a threat even to immortal beings.
The series, written by Tsuyoshi Fujitaka, began on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website on February 21, 2016. It follows Yogiri Takatou, a student transported to another world during a school field trip. After being abandoned by the sage Sion—who killed adults for petty reasons and left students without special abilities to die—Yogiri and his classmate Tomochika Dannoura set out to find a way back to their original world. The protagonist's journey begins after a school bus is summoned to this new realm. He is accompanied by Tomochika Dannoura, whose family manages a martial arts dojo.
Yogiri's power is absolute and bypasses traditional defenses. This was demonstrated when he killed Lain, a vampire who was considered immortal and impossible to kill normally. His unnatural apathy toward these supernatural events often unnerves Tomochika. To avoid random slaughter, Asaka, his foster mother, imposed psychological limits, telling him to activate his ability solely during threats to himself or those he loves.
The narrative involves complex political and supernatural elements, including spies from the Japanese and American governments, such as Ryouko and Carol S. Lane, who monitor Yogiri's abilities. The series has expanded from its web novel origins into a massive franchise, including 14 print volumes published by Earth Star Entertainment between October 2016 and March 2023, a manga adaptation serialized in Comic Earth Star starting in March 2018, and an anime series that aired from January to March 2024. The franchise includes a manga illustrated by Hanamaru Nanto. Additionally, an anime adaptation produced by Okuruto Noboru premiered in early 2024.
