A poor student becomes a servant to a wealthy heiress after a kidnapping
In short: When Itsuki Tomonari's parents abandoned him, his financial future seemed bleak. However, a shared kidnapping with Hinako Konohana, a scion of one of Japan's richest families, changed everything. Now, he lives with the Konohana family and attends an exclusive academy, serving as the secret caretaker for a girl who cannot manage daily life.
Originally a web novel on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō site, this series features illustrations by Sakura Miwabe and writing by Yusaku Sakaishi. Between April 2, 2020, and October 26, 2021, the story was posted online before being published by Hobby Japan's HJ Bunko imprint on May 1, 2021. The narrative follows Itsuki Tomonari, a high school student facing extreme poverty after his parents, who are gambling addicts, left him without funds. The original web novel was authored by Yusaku Sakaishi. It was eventually published under the HJ Bunko imprint.
The plot centers on the relationship between Itsuki and Hinako Konohana. While Hinako maintains the facade of a perfect student at the elite Kiou Academy, she is actually lazy and lacks basic life skills. After their kidnapping, Hinako develops feelings for Itsuki and offers him a place to live and attend school, provided he serves as her caretaker. This arrangement forces Itsuki to balance his role as a servant with the social complexities of an academy filled with powerful heirs. Hinako strives to win his heart without being obvious. She worries about potential rejection due to his passive-aggressive behaviour.
The franchise has expanded significantly through various media. On July 2, 2021, Sorahiko Mizushima's manga version started appearing on the Comic Fire website owned by Hobby Japan. An anime television series produced by Brain's Base aired from July 5 to September 20, 2026. By July 2026, twelve light novel volumes were out, whereas seven tankōbon manga volumes had appeared by October 2026. Monogatari Novels holds the English licensing rights for this series. Additionally, Plus Media Networks Asia handles the Southeast Asian licensing.
